Our Employee of the Month for August is Maribel! Month after month, she continues to impress as one of our Head Nurses. Maribel's positive attitude, dedication and organizational skills help keep the upstairs hospital operations functioning smoothly. She was also instrumental on working on our detailed Nurses Roles and Responsibilities list. These efforts to streamline things have never been more important than during the last few months with the increased number of procedures and surgeries. Not only does Maribel display strong leadership skills, but all the staff enjoys working with her. Clients lover her as well and they really appreciate her cute pet photos and updates on their pets. Her biggest fan, however, remains Ash, who is spoiled beyond belief thanks to Maribel doting on him. We are all lucky to work alongside Maribel and, for that reason, she is to be celebrated this month. Well done, Maribel!
Our Employee of the Month for July is Elmer! Over the last several months, the kennel was quieter than normal due to COVID-19 and clients working from and staying close to home. In July, things really picked up and the kennel has become very busy. Elmer has really taken charge and kept things running smoothly down there. He has been working tirelessly taking care of the pets and also cleaning the building after the pets have settled in for the night. Elmer is a really hard worker and seldom stops moving whether he is bringing pets in or out, bathing, walking, feeding or medicating them or even sending pet photos to owners. We really appreciate all he does for the pets as well as all the behind scenes work he takes care of. Not only does he keep the building clean, but also organized and safe by putting away deliveries and getting rid of trash and cardboard boxes. Great Job, Elmer and congratulations on your win!
Please congratulate our June Employee of the Month, David! Over the years, David has-and continues to-wear a lot of hats: Nurse, Doctor Assistant, Floater, Concierge, IT guru, Kennel and more. He is usually the first call when there are IT issues in house, even before Khouri is contacted. Most recently, he redesigned the Pet Portal page on our website to include instructional videos he created for clients so they can learn how to access their pet's information via the website portal. He is always willing to take on any assignment, help others out when needed and always does it with a smile. He's a real team player and we are very lucky to have him. Our May Employee of the Month is Ixmucane, also fondly knows as Nine or Ix. This year, she has been very busy balancing her studies at NCC to become a Vet Tech with her work schedule. With school now over, Ixmucane has been around on a more regular basis and in a variety of roles including Vet Nurse in training, Floating and our new Greeter. She has worked with a variety of staff, pets and clients and seems very comfortable in her new roles. Her enthusiasm, organizational skills and attention to detail have made her very valuable in each of these areas. Most recently, she has wrangled our curbside service into a very organized process and it has helped make it much more efficient. Overall, she has made several important contributions to her various roles and, for that reason, we celebrate her this month. Great job, Ix!
April's Employee of the Month is Amanda! While you normally find her out front as a CSR, you might not always these days. Amanda has recently been busy in the back assisting the doctors and also being our Concierge. She has picked up her additional roles quickly and is enjoying getting more hands on time with the pets. While enjoying her new responsibilities, you will still find Amanda out front as a CSR helping orchestrate the movement of pets into and out of the building as well as managing the ever-ringing phone lines. While we do keep her very busy while at work, she still finds time to continue to spend time with her family, run her pet sitting business and even bake our staff wonderful treats. No matter how busy she is, she always finds time to help out when asked and she wears a smile while doing it. Great job, Amanda!
Some of our clients may already know, but for those folks not yet aware, Dr. Nick Milano and Dr. Jessica Greenberg are new members of the Bull’s Head Pet Hospital team. Please join us in welcoming them aboard. Dr. Milano serves the clinic as a full-time Associate Veterinarian; and Dr. Greenberg as a permanent, part-time Associate Veterinarian. News this weekend that a tiger in the big cat group belonging to the Bronx Zoo tested positive for COVID-19 has concerned many about our own cats at home possibly becoming sick. We know that there is a small possibility that house cats (and ferrets) can become infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 in people - when directly exposed to a sick person. So far, there has been one isolated case found in a cat in Europe and none in domesticated cats here in the USA. One of the largest labs in the country is testing samples from pet cats that come into their facility and have yet to diagnose any cases which is encouraging! While we all know this situation is new and rapidly changing you can be sure all of us veterinarians at BHPH are constantly reviewing the scientific information to be sure we can provide the best possible advice to you and your family. Right now, the advice remains the same as the CDC guidelines: if someone in your home is sick with COVID-19 they should wash their hands frequently and when possible have someone else feed and care for pets in the home. At this time there is no evidence that dogs can be infected, and cats (including our beloved big cats at the zoo!) are all recovering. We do know that dogs can carry the virus on their fur (being a fomite) but good hand washing and wiping your pet off with a damp cloth reduces that risk. It’s also always good to remind people to ask before petting your dog and it’s ok to say no. Remember, these cases are very few and far between and show the small possibility of the virus infecting a cat from a sick person, there is no evidence of cats spreading the virus back to humans. Curbside Care Procedures: Once you arrive @BHPH, text message to 203 324 5711 writing us: Your name-pet Where Parked?>> BHPH or John the Baker Side lot Car Color/Make BHPH Staff will come out to get your pet and check them in. BHPH Staff will use BHPH leash only on pet. (cats in carriers only) BHPH Staff will leash pet thru window- then open door BHPH Staff will return pet to car after appointment- Please lower window so BHPH Staff may remove leash. Exam report will be emailed to you with instructions for future recommendations or any doctor follow up contact. As things continue to develop with the spread of COVID-19 in our area and across the country, we thought we would share some pertinent information we have received from the American Veterinary Medical Association. First and foremost, we know you are worried about your pets, but don't panic. Despite there being numerous strains of coronavirus, the ones of dogs and cats are not the same as COVID-19. In fact, according to the CDC, no animals in the United States have been identified with the virus, and there is NO evidence that dogs or other pets can contract or spread COVID-19. You may continue to keep yourself updated on the situation by following the American Veterinary Medical Association blog on the topic. Also know that we are still open and rest assured that we are doing everything within our power to provide a healthy environment for our staff, clients and their pets by keeping our hospital as clean and sanitary as possible: We have asked our staff who aren't feeling well to refrain from coming in. Please make sure to do the same if you or someone in your family is not well to help protect the health of our staff. We are increasing our already thorough daily cleaning and sanitizing procedures throughout the building. As always, we have antibacterial soap for hand washing and hand sanitizer dispensing units found throughout the various exam rooms. We are disinfecting common surfaces several times a day throughout the building. This is a trying time for all of us and we will continue open communication with you as necessary. Our Employee of the Month for February is Robin. This month, she has been particularly helpful as both a Dr. Assistant and Concierge. She is a real team player and she has been very flexible filling in for ill staff or staying late to finish up work end of the day. She continues to shine as a DA and can often be found as the Concierge when she is not in the exam rooms. Wherever she is, she is focused on getting things done so the doctors stay on time and clients get responses in a timely manner. The only time you may not find her is at lunchtime, when she is often in the kennel feeding and walking around with Charlotte, our African Grey Parrot. Robin has a deep love of exotics, and lots of experience working with them, so she and Charlotte are best friends. In fact, Charlotte often perches on her shoulder late in the day while she works away answering emails and voicemails for the doctors. Whether with exotics, dogs, cats or staff, Robin is a dedicated employee and for that we celebrate her as our Employee of the Month.
